Hello fellow therapists,

Does anyone out there practice Shiatsu massage? I was just certified in this modality, and I'm curious how your clients have responded to it, and what their level of interest is for this type of massage.

Thanks,
Kathleen

hi kathleen

i am just about to be certified as a zen shiatsu therapist.

shiatsu is quite different from just massage (which i am also certified) because you diagnose and treat using traditional chinese medicine theory.

you get different sort of clients from massage (i actually call them patients) because you are working on a deeper level to treat specific health and emotional problems - like insomnia, menstral problems, even asthma. so you are attracting patients who with more health related problems.

I've been doing shiatsu full time for the last 9 years. Shiatsu is the only modality that I do. The goal is to balance the body. In doing so the person feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally. You will find that the rythmatic pressures is the thing. I love shiatsu and find it as a path in life. I know with an open mind and heart you will do well!

all my best
