I've been doing shiatsu full time for the last 9 years. Shiatsu is the only modality that I do. The goal is to balance the body. In doing so the person feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally. You will find that the rythmatic pres...
you are right. shiatsu is not just a massage. it treats the root cause of a health problem.
i had been thinking of making a brochure calling it shiatsu massage to try and attract more patients.
however, you are right, i will now focus on promoting shiatsu as a unique therapy in itself through selling its healing benefits.
using the body's ability to heal itself is what i love about shiatsu. also you can give patients homework to help themselves, like pressing certain points, moxa, stretches, diet.
when people begin to control of their own health and heal themselves it is very exciting and a powerful thing.
watching their health improve over time and to think i played a small part in it makes it all worthwhile.
may i ask if you have any tips for marketing shiatsu?
i live in an area where many people have not heard of shiatsu.
i have an attractive brochure explaining about shiatsu. i leave this in various shops in town, including the local health food shop. i also write articles for the local paper on the seasons and their associated health problems and ways of treating these.
many people who come to see me say they have either heard of me from word of mouth or shiatsu.
i work at a well-being center with naturopaths, psychologists, remedial massage therapists, herbalists and now an acupuncturist.
they have all had a shiatsu and love it. they recommend me when they can.
i find at the well being center, people will often choose to have a remedial massage over a shiatsu because they do not understand what it is.
did you come across this, and if so how did you overcome it?
thanks jonathan
